The Lusignan citadel nowadays known as Othello's Castle originally served as protection for Famagusta's harbour. The Venetian Captain Nicolo Foscareno altered and strreghtenend the gate during the 15th Century. Its entrance door ranks among the oldest wooden doors in Cyprus. Throughout its eventful history, Othello's Castle served as residence, fortress, warehouse and prison.
