You find the Cafer Pasha Fountain in the North-Western corner of the Namik Kemal Square in Famagusta. Cafer Pasha was a famous Ottoman general. After the conquest of Famagusta in 1571 he supervised improvements of the city's infrastructure that greatly helped its inhabitants to foster their prosperity. In particular, he improved the water supply of the city by building a lot of aqueducts and fountains. The best preserved fountain from this time was built in 1597 and can still be seen at the entrance to the Venetian palace. The tub of the fountain is made of marble and is a "recycled" roman sarcophagus.
